I married Jane while in grad school, spending late hours writing my thesis. I was perpetually tired. One day she says, “You need a sleeper, someone to sleep for you.” Now there was a grand idea. I’d been wasting seven hours each day resting my body. My mind craved liberation. Well, chemical engineering did not prepare me to substitute sleep, but I could write. I imagined the world if we could borrow sleep. What would happen? Would it heal us, bring us together, give us infinite creativity and harmony? Or divide us in half, sleepers and non-sleepers. So began my writing adventure. Enjoy.
